It’s been an exciting few weeks in the world of street food, as NCASS have begun to team up with the street food collectives to push street food to the relevant authorities and raise awareness amongst the public. Short sighted assumptions about street food are starting to be swept away and there is a real buzz that 2012 could be the year that it takes hold nationwide. Our Friends in the North The NCASS team went up’t north for a networking event organised by Northern Streats, the country’s newest street food collective. Set up by NCASS member Cathy McConaughy, the collective hopes to promote and deliver all that is great about cuisine and raw materials in the North. Predominantly based in Yorkshire, Northern Streats will offer a diverse mix of foods from around the world and closer to home, but making use of the great agricultural offerings available in Yorkshire. They are very much at the formative stage but are currently taking on members. Northern Streats are also pro-actively organising events and speaking to local boroughs and ‘stakeholders’ to create events to work at. They are looking for both street food and festival & show work in the north of England. For the full story on the networking event and the Northern Streats Collective please check out the next edition of the NCASS members’ magazine. The world food collective Largely based in London, the world food collective are a group of like-minded NCASS members. They offer food from all sides of the Mediterranean :- Italian, Spanish, Greek, North African as well as coffee and sweet options such as Churros and Crepes. They also offer the not so Mediterranean but equally delightful Japanese cuisine! |
All members of the collective must have five years’ experience in street food and event catering . They must sign up to their principles on waste management, gas safety and sustainability which will work as a great USP for them. Also, by working collectively, they are able to share resources when necessary, offer a more comprehensive service and cut costs. By offering a complete package to the event organisers or markets we hope they will be able to secure more work at better prices.
We were very impressed with their set up and their food when we saw them at the Mayors Thames River festival, it was also great to see so many NCASS members getting along and working together to get better work.

With award winning caterers offering excellent and diverse food, we expect big things from the world food collective. You can find members at the fine food market on the south bank and Portobello street market all year round or on the festival circuit.
